Spartans Log Solid Wins Over Kennedy Catholic
The Bainbridge Island Spartans boys water polo program made a statement on the road, with both Varsity and JV teams earning decisive road victories against Kennedy Catholic.
Varsity Recap – Spartans 11, Kennedy Catholic 7
The Varsity Spartans came out strong and never looked back, securing an 11–7 win over the Lancers. Offensive firepower was led by Lucas Cuellar-Carpenter with 4 goals, followed by Ryan Rich and Jonas Fritzsche with 2 each, and Beckett Lipton and Calvin Cox adding 1 apiece.
Defensively, the Spartans shined as well. Beckett Lipton tallied 4 steals and 2 assists, sparking key counterattacks that shifted momentum.
Head Coach Kristin Gellert praised the effort but emphasized the importance of consistency:
“Our first league game on the road against a strong competitor was a great test for the Spartans. Last night’s game was a good lesson in keeping the foot on the gas for all 4 quarters and making quick adjustments.”
JV Recap – Spartans 6, Kennedy Catholic 0
The Junior Varsity squad showed equal determination, shutting out Kennedy Catholic in a 6–0 win. Jack Rogowski and Miles Lawson each scored twice, with Charlie Leong and George Wolffe adding one goal each to round out the scoring.
Coach Gellert highlighted the significance of the game for her junior varsity squad:
“This was a great opportunity for our guys to get tested outside of our own pool! We were able to see some really strong areas for our team and build confidence with where we are in the game at this time.”
Looking Ahead
With both Varsity and JV earning convincing wins against Kennedy Catholic, the Spartans are building momentum early in the season. The program will look to continue its strong play as the competition heats up. This weekend the Spartans travel to Curtis High School to take on Newport.
